Optimise your website in 5 easy steps

Your Website Needs 5 Things To Convert_1

1. Your website needs YOU.

When your prospective clients or customers land on your home page, they want to know who’s behind it.
Photos of you build instant connection and engagement.

Don’t hide behind your about page, get front and centre – welcome your visitors like you’re throwing open the front door!

Use language you would normally use if you’re talking to them in person. Be real, personable and relatable. People connect with people, not stock images, the right font and a gorgeous colour palette (although of course that all helps!)

2. Your website needs to have DIRECTION.

So now that you’ve welcomed your prospective client with your smiley happy face on the front page of your website, what’s next? Well, just like you would expect to be invited to sit or asked what you would like when being welcomed into a home, it’s a similar idea.

You need to invite your prospective client to do something
Where do you want them to go? What do you want them to do?

Is signing up to your mailing list most important, or do you want them to read a blog post or download that sensational lead magnet you put together for them?
Tell them clearly, through an invitation, what to do.

3. Your website needs to have an INTRODUCTION.

Your customer/client may have landed on your website through a recommendation, a link that intrigued them, or because they liked a post on your social media page and decided to come and check you out.

Don’t play shy and leave it all tucked away on your about page! Connect from the moment they land on your home page. Let them know who you are, in that friendly, personable language we spoke about before. Don’t assume they already know who you are or what you do.

Let them know upfront, introduce yourself and let them know how you can help them.

4. Your website needs to have SOCIAL PROOF.

Have you seen those website that have the ticker constantly revolving, “Josie just bought xxx from Perth”, “Bree just bought xxx from Sydney”
We have an instant internal dialogue, “well, if Josie and Bree think it’s a good idea, I’m going to check it out”!

We love social proof. If we hear from someone else that they had a great experience, or loved a particular product… we listen. The more social proof the better.

The most powerful social proof (within the context of your website), is the … testimonial.  Don’t be shy in asking for testimonials from people you have worked with, or have bought your product. They are GOLD.

5. Your website needs to offer CONNECTION.

You want to make it super easy for your customer/client to stay in touch with you after they click away from your website.

Whether it’s an easy way to connect with you on your social media channels, or offering a super valuable lead magnet in exchange for their email, you want to keep the relationship going.

Remember, people are getting bombarded with emails these days, we live in an information over-loaded world so make sure you are offering something that they would really get something out of. That way they are more inclined to stay on your list and open your emails because they know they contain something of value and worth.

So they are my 5 simple steps to create a great first impression on the home page of your website.
Go and take a look at your website with a fresh set of eyes and a clear idea of how you can tweak it to get the most out of that valuable traffic.
